Basic Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess a minimum of three years of experience performing Paralegal tasks and related duties (e.g., research, law clerk, drafting pleadings and motions, etc.). The candidate must also meet one of the following criteria: Certificate from an American Bar Association accredited paralegal program; Associate or Bachelor Degree in Paralegal Studies; Bachelor or higher Degree, plus one year of law-related experience under an attorney's supervision; or otherwise meet the education and experience criteria specified in the California Business and Professions Code Section 6450(c).

Job Requirements: Demonstrated experience with researching, analyzing and developing legal concepts and information, drawing conclusions, and developing solutions for routine problems. Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with the principles of judicial and administrative process, legal research procedures and use of law library, and the procedures for federal and state courts. Demonstrate the knowledge of and experience with environmental, land use, and/or regulatory law. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interpret legal terminology. Demonstrated experience with working on multiple projects concurrently. Demonstrated experience with completing projects with tight deadlines, effectively managing work under high pressure situations, and making work flow adjustments to meet changing conditions and priorities. Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused, to understand and appropriately respond to supervisors, attorneys, and clients' business needs, and interface effectively and/or collaborate with others. Demonstrate the ability to work directly with all levels of management. Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions. Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and accountability for the accuracy of information and for achieving results. Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preferences: Possess at least one year of experience with complex litigation management. Proficient with on-line legal research services such as LEXIS/NEXIS or WESTLAW. Demonstrated knowledge of litigation support computer applications (e.g., Concordance, Summation). Demonstrated knowledge of administrative agencies (EPA, CPUC, FERC, etc.) practices and procedures.

Typical Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal assistance to attorneys in the environmental, land use, and/or regulatory practice areas by conducting legal research and analyzing legal sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, legal codes or agreements. Typical responsibilities (under the direction of an attorney) will include: interpreting data, developing alternatives, and presenting findings and recommendations; resolving routine legal issues; assisting with the briefing of court cases and proceedings before administrative agencies (CPUC, FERC, EPA, SCAQMD, DTSC, Regional Boards, etc.); drafting memoranda, correspondence, pleadings, and responses for discovery matters, or other documents as required; interfacing with personnel in other departments to gather information pertaining to legal assessments and issues; and performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned, such as managing moderate to heavy caseloads; conducting factual investigations; and coordinating matters with outside counsel and opposing parties.
